AQC Lab: Laboratory for Software Quality Evaluation

Significance of software product quality

During recent years, software quality has become one of the aspects that are most important and make more impact in software development projects. At first, the focus was put on software development processes, and that is why models and standards such as CMMI and ISO/IEC 15504 emerged.

Nevertheless, a growing number of organizations and companies are not only interested in the quality of software development processes, but they are also becoming concerned for the quality of the software products they develop or purchase, since it is not unusual to find serious quality issues in the products once they are installed. The growing awareness about the importance of software product quality has given rise to AQC Lab Evaluation Laboratory, which makes independent software product quality evaluation possible for software development departments and factories, and organizations that outsource part or all of their software development.

Based on the new series of standards ISO/IEC 25000 SQuaRE

AQC Lab takes as a basis the latest international standard concerning software product quality,ISO/IEC 25000 SQuaRE. This series of standards emerges to revise and replace the old standards ISO/IEC 9126 and ISO/IEC 14598, putting together their content and defining through its different parts the following:

  • A quality model with quality characteristics and subcharacteristics that can be evaluated in a software product.

  • Quality metrics and requirements related to the software product.

  • An evaluation process to assess software product quality.

Conforming to the requirements in this series of standards, AQC Lab carries out an evaluation process consisting of five activities:

Proceso

  1. Establish the evaluation requirements: its goal is to define the purpose of the evaluation, obtain the software product quality requirements, identify the stakeholders and product parts to be included, and define the stringency of the evaluation.

  2. Specify the evaluation: its goal is to specify the metrics, techniques and tools used in the evaluation process.

  3. Design the evaluation: its goal is to specify a plan that defines the evaluation activities.

  4. Execute the evaluation: its goal is to make measurements and apply the set of decision criteria for evaluation specified previously.

  5. Conclude the evaluation: its goal is to analyze the evaluation results and create an evaluation report that shows the quality of the software product to the client organization.

Client Benefits

Thanks to the independent evaluation service that AQC Lab provides, organizations can get the following benefits:

  • Knowing the quality of the software product that they are developing or purchasing.

  • Controlling quality evolution of their software products throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Fix software defects since early phases of the lifecycle, reducing maintenance costs and improving time to market.

  • Compare the quality of their products to that of other available products.

  • Increase customer satisfaction and improve return of investment.
